07/07/10 “Public Health Matters” Video Contest

Northwest Health Foundation is now accepting submissions for a new video contest that combines creativity with public health to communicate important, sometimes surprising messages to Oregonians.
Public health is everywhere—it’s in our sidewalks, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.
These basic but critical features of our cities and neighborhoods wouldn’t be possible without Oregon’s state and local public health systems, but many of us don’t realize it.
We think it’s time to change that. And we need your help.
The Challenge:
Develop a 30-second public service advertisement (PSA) that creatively demonstrates how our communities benefit from Oregon’s public health system and its county health departments.
The Grand Prize
  • $3,000
  • A private meeting with Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant
  • A chance to see your PSA air in select Oregon markets
The Details:
All submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. PST on August 15, 2010
This contest is open to Oregonians of all ages and levels of experience

About Us:

PAF Celebrating 100 year of setting the standard for the Creative, Design, and Media Community!

You'd think New York or San Francisco, not Portland, was this country's first club of that kind. In 1906, a group of business and professional leaders put their heads together to form an ad club, establishing Portland as a leader in the creative business community. 100 years, at least 76 presidents, and three name changes later, the Portland Advertising Federation, now known as the PAF, is one of the strongest ad clubs in the country.

Coming into the 21st century, PAF is focusing on its program activity and benefits on explicit member disciplines. PAF programs run throughout the year and have been instrumental in bringing some of the most exciting and innovative thinkers in the business to our region. To name a few: John F. Kennedy, JR. Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point Chris Riley, Head of Planning, Graphic Design Group, Apple Computer, Inc. Jameel Spence, President of New York-based Blue Flame Marketing & Advertising. Neal Stewart, Brand Manager of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Andrew Keller, CB+P, Group Creative Director on MINI. Kevin Carroll, brand evangelist and ESPN show host. John Butler, principal at Butler Shine Stern & Partners, author of Converse Brand Democracy. Joey Carson, CEO of reality television pioneers Buni-Murray Productions.

PAF is member inclusive, including all disciplines in communication arts: advertising agencies, media partners (radio, TV, and print), interactive communication, and client-side marketing professionals. Each Executive Director and each Board of Directors makes their mark on the progress and future of PAF. Current Executive Director Jamie Sexton is working with the Board and Executive Committee on an aggressive marketing approach for PAF that includes re-branding, value-driven educational programs, new member development, and outreach to the member community.

As the history of PAF is updated each year, a constant appears to be the club’s willingness to change with the times. Who knows what the next 100 years will bring?
