01/09/08 Mobile Marketing

The New Connection Currency - this program is sold out.

Mobile broadband is no longer about simply deploying wireless networks and attempting to charge users for access; it's about knowing where users connect, what devices they're connecting with and monetizing them with location-aware advertising.  Some of the elements we'll explore are the three flavors of mobile advertising, unique wi-fi approaches, the ability to target a users device (iPhone, PC Notebook, PC Gaming devices [Sony PSP]), and the ability to target a user demographic.

Kevin McKenzie will moderate a lively discussion on this frontier.  Kevin is a pioneer of media and online commerce.  His experience as Vice President at CNET Networks Shopping Services included work on CNET,  ZDNET Shopper, and mySimon.

Joining Kevin will be Jon Marony and Jason Grigsby.  Jon is President of FreeRange and oversees the day-to-day operations of the company as well as the strategic development of the company's products. Prior to founding FreeRange, Jon spent 12 years in the software industry, running marketing and product marketing at Extensis, a maker of software for graphic professionals and publishers (Suitcase and Portfolio), and as Director of Product Marketing and Channel Sales at Dantz Development, maker of backup software Retrospect. Jon is a member of the Board of Directors of Beam Dynamics. He has a BA from Boston University.

Jason, Vice President, Web Stategist, was introduced to Mosaic, the world’s first web browser, he declared that “this web thing is too slow and will never go anywhere.” Within six months of making this foolish proclamation, he built his first web site and now has over 11 years of experience in web site development.

Despite his early incorrect prognosis about the web, Jason has a proven track record of identifying upcoming trends and positioning clients to take advantage of new technology.  He specializes in helping customers determine the bet way to accomplish their business objectives.  Jason's expertise includes information acrhitecture, usability, and emerging technology like social media.

About Us:

PAF Celebrating 100 year of setting the standard for the Creative, Design, and Media Community!

You'd think New York or San Francisco, not Portland, was this country's first club of that kind. In 1906, a group of business and professional leaders put their heads together to form an ad club, establishing Portland as a leader in the creative business community. 100 years, at least 76 presidents, and three name changes later, the Portland Advertising Federation, now known as the PAF, is one of the strongest ad clubs in the country.

Coming into the 21st century, PAF is focusing on its program activity and benefits on explicit member disciplines. PAF programs run throughout the year and have been instrumental in bringing some of the most exciting and innovative thinkers in the business to our region. To name a few: John F. Kennedy, JR. Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point Chris Riley, Head of Planning, Graphic Design Group, Apple Computer, Inc. Jameel Spence, President of New York-based Blue Flame Marketing & Advertising. Neal Stewart, Brand Manager of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Andrew Keller, CB+P, Group Creative Director on MINI. Kevin Carroll, brand evangelist and ESPN show host. John Butler, principal at Butler Shine Stern & Partners, author of Converse Brand Democracy. Joey Carson, CEO of reality television pioneers Buni-Murray Productions.

PAF is member inclusive, including all disciplines in communication arts: advertising agencies, media partners (radio, TV, and print), interactive communication, and client-side marketing professionals. Each Executive Director and each Board of Directors makes their mark on the progress and future of PAF. Current Executive Director Jamie Sexton is working with the Board and Executive Committee on an aggressive marketing approach for PAF that includes re-branding, value-driven educational programs, new member development, and outreach to the member community.

As the history of PAF is updated each year, a constant appears to be the club’s willingness to change with the times. Who knows what the next 100 years will bring?
